Central Carolina Scale sells and services GSE Pharmacy 664 Validation - Prescription Counting - Compounding - Legal for Trade - Network Compatible Digital Scales

On January 1, 2004, the National Conference of Weights and Measures (NCWM) passed a recommendation to permit Class I & Class II Prescription Scales to fill prescriptions based on the quantity calculated by the scale.

GSE was a pioneer in parts counting so the new regulation fit well into their core competency. On January 3, 2004 GSE Pharmacy Scale was sent to the NTEP lab for testing and GSE became the first manufacturer with a Legal for Trade Counting Scale used for prescription filling. They now have an installed base of over 9,000 units with over 7,500 connected to an Intranet system via Ethernet. One of the most critical features programmed into the scale is not the counting feature, but the ability to validate that the pharmacist selects the correct drug for the patient. The Intranet connection allows pharmacies to maintain a central drug database and update independent scales or all scales should the need arise.

GSE 664 Pharmacy Digital Scale

GSE Model 664 Pharmacy Scale

- Network Compatible – An Ethernet port allows for communication, via an intranet or Internet connection, from the scale to a central drug database for retrieval of NDC data, average pill weight data, or any custom data required.
System Integration – The complete operation, from communications to displayed information, can be customized to interface with existing workflow process software.
Prescription Validation – Protect patients by validating that medication and dosage dispensed are correct. Both prescription label and stock bottle label NDC identifiers must match before a prescription can be counted and filled.
Compounding – Accurately weighs ingredients with a displayed resolution of 0.001 grams (1 mg).
Inventory Control – Standard counting features permit quick and easy cycle counting of inventory. Customized scale programs can be written for additional controls of full physical inventory or cycle counting requirements.
Legal for Trade – Class II certified. Prescription counting approved.

GSE 664

As simple as 1, 2, 3...

Step 1: Scan Prescription label is scanned using bar code scanner attached to scale. A successful scan will display name of drug to be dispensed, its NDC code, and dosage strength on LCD backlit, graphical display.

Step 2: Validate When stock bottle is scanned, NDC code is verified against prescription to validate correct stock bottle was selected. If prescription and stock bottle labels match, the scale will permit prescription to be filled. If labels do not match, the scale displays message that incorrect stock bottle was selected.

Step 3: Count Upon prescription validation, Model 664 displays quantity of drug dispensed. A networked Model 664 sends confirmation of quantity dispensed to host computer.
